Bengaluru, Sep 29: As part of the strategy to woo the Kadugolla community, which has a sizeable population in the poll-bound Sira taluk of Tumakuru Assembly Constituency which is facing a by-election shortly, the B S Yediyurappa regime has decided to constitute a corporation for the comprehensive development of the Kadugolla community.
In an official government order, the state government said the new corporation will work for the social, economic and educational development of the backward Kadugolla community and also work for its all-round development.
The Sira assembly constituency is expected to go in for a by-election shortly to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the JD(S) MLA B Sathyanarayana. Even though the Election Commission is yet to announce the poll schedule, the opposition Congress party has already announced former minister T B Jayachandra as its candidate and named the former deputy chief minister Dr G Parameshwar as the party’s election in-charge. Both Sathyanarayana and Jayachandra belong to the politically powerful Vokkaliga community.
The ruling BJP and JD(S) are yet to announce their candidates. However, chief minister B S Yediyurappa’s son B Y Vijayendra, who is the state BJP Yuva Morcha general secretary, has been taking an active interest in the constituency and is expected to lead the campaign. The JD(S) is toying with the idea of fielding late Sathyanarayana’s widow as the party candidate.
The Kadugolla community has also been included in the list of backward class communities to be for reservation in the educational institutions and in the recruitments.
There are an estimated 25 lac population of the Kadugolla community in 10 districts of Karnataka. The Kadugolla community is the second largest in Sira assembly constituency, which is next only to the backward Kunchitigas.
It may be recalled that the state government had appointed Eeranna of the Kadugolla community as the Sira Urban Development Authority.
The ruling BJP is said to be considering naming Yashodamma of the Kadugolla community as the Tumakuru zilla panchayat president as the BJP and JD(S) are sharing power in the zilla panchayat.
