Mangalore, Apr 15: Family members of Mohammed Jamaluddin from K C Road and Asbhishek Amin from Bikarnakatte in the city claim that the policemen have unnecessarily framed the two in the case of murder conspiracy against a lawyer and the abduction of a jeweller, although they are innocent.

Mubeena, wife of Mohammed Jamaluddin, informed the reporters at the family’s K C Road residence that her husband used to run a business of eggs in the Gulf and had returned home last year. “He had postponed his return as we got a child. He was preparing to return to the Gulf, when the policemen arrested him, knowing fully well that he is innocent,” she said. She explained that Jamaluddin, who left home on April 5 to avail of a loan, had been taken into custody by the policemen from near Pumpwell Circle in the city. “Whenever we called him over his mobile, my husband gave evasive replies. The family came to know about the arrest on April 12,” she said. Jamaluddin’s mother, Zubeda, also vouched for the good nature of her son since his childhood.

Asha Amin, mother of Abishek, claimed that Abhishek had contact with Narayan Salian as the latter promised to bag a job for him. “He did not have any other association with Salian,” she said, speaking at the family’s Bikarnakatte residence here.

“Abhishek had suffered injury while working in two shipping companies at Singapur and Malaysia. He was searching for a new job. He was taken into custody illegally by the policemen on April 1. As he was confident of getting released, he asked me not to reveal this information to the family. The policemen have framed him in this case. He has been tortured by them,” said Abhishek’s brother, Avinash. Father of the accused, Padmanabh, said that his son knew Salian since only the last three months.

The two are among the 12 persons arrested by the policemen of the SP’s special squad and charged with planning to murder an advocate and abducting a jeweller.

Both the families rued the fact that they have been unable to avail of the services of a lawyer to plead on behalf of their innocent family member, as the city lawyers have decided not to represent any of the accused in the case. When contacted, the local lawyers concurred that they have on their own, decided not to argue on behalf of the accused in this case, as they are charged with conspiring to kill a lawyer from the city. At the same time, they clarified that they do not have any objections, if lawyers from other than the city are hired by the accused.
