Bangalore: Karnataka Sahitya Academy Announces Honorary and Book Awards

Bangalore, Apr 20: Karnataka Sahitya Academy has announced honorary awards for the year 2009 and book awards for the year 2008. The announcement was made by the president of the academy, Prof M H Krishnaiah.

Dr Shashikala Moldi from Gulbarga, Dr Gurumurty Pendakoor from Bellary district, veteran writer, Prof Ki Rum Nagaraj, Dr P K Rajashekhar from Mysore and Dr Moodnakoodu Chinnaswamy from Chamarajnagar district have been chosen for the honorary awards. These awards carry Rs 10,000 in cash and citations.

‘Karnaraaga’, a book of poetry written by Dr L Hanumantaiah, ‘Ullanghane’, a novel by Dr Na Mogasale, ‘Oora Olagana Bayalu’, collection of short stories by Dr Vinaya, ‘Allamana Bayalata’ play by Lakshmipati Kolar, ‘Ragimudde’,  light essay by Raghunath Cha Ha, ‘Pashchima Mukhi’, a travelogue by T R Anantaramu, ‘Yaru Nanu?’, by Pha Shi Bhandage in autobiography section and ‘Takararu’ by Dr Mogalli Ganesh under the section ‘literary reviews’, have been chosen for the book awards.

Various others books have also been picked for the book awards. The book awards comprise cash component of Rs 5,000 each and citation. The awards function will be held in Udupi either by May end or first week of June. Over 750 books had been entered for the book awards, Krishnaiah disclosed.
