Udupi: Yakshagana Melas seek DC's approval to undertake seasonal tours

Udupi, Nov 4: Heads of a number of Yakshagana Melas met deputy commissioner of the district G Jagadeesha on Tuesday, November 3 and requested him to grant permission for the Yakshagana Melas to conduct their annual tours.

Managing trustee of Kamalashile Mela, Sachidananda Chatra, Dhananjay Shetty of Mandarthi group of Melas, Anand C Kunder of Kota Amriteshwari Mela, Y Karunakar Shetty of Halady Mela and P Kishan Hegde of Panchamela met the deputy commissioner and held discussions on the topic.

The deputy commissioner told them that as per the guidelines, more than 200 people cannot come together for programmes. He said that the programmes should be organised within the temple premises as violation of rules attracts penal provisions and cases will be registered.

He also suggested them to wait till January to see developments if any as nights during the winter in December will be quite cold.
