Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Nov 5: The state government has been preparing standard operating procedure (SOP) for the reopening of colleges. It is in the process of obtaining suggestions from the University Grants Commission (UGC) before publishing the same.

Degree colleges are scheduled to start functioning from November 17, and the government has also made its decision public. But an official order is yet to be issued. A detailed SOP on the functioning of colleges upon reopening, safety of students and other integrated information will be issued. Sources in the department of collegiate education said that the SOP will be published after the UGC gives its suggestions.

The officials of the department of collegiate education have been asked by the government to issue official notification for the opening colleges. There is no compulsion that the students have to attend the colleges once they are opened. Depending on local conditions, availability of online classes etc, the students and their parents can decide the best course to follow.

Online classes will continue to be held without any break. Students need not worry over this aspect. At the same time, classroom teaching will also be organized, and notification will soon be issued, an official of the department said.

Deputy chief minister and minister for higher education Dr C N Aswath Narayan, said that SOP for college opening is under preparation and UGC's opinion, suggestions etc have to be obtained. He said that the officials have been asked to issue official notification about college opening. Alongside online classes, classroom teaching will continue. Therefore students need not worry, he explained.
