Mangaluru, Nov 6: After a committee of experts formed for the purpose recommended to postpone the gram panchayat election in the state in view of the coronavirus infection, the BJP has declared its readiness to face the election. Even the Congress said that the election commission should convene an all-party meet to discuss and arrive at a consensus on the matter. But the JD(S) has said that it would be apt to put off the election for now.

Speaking to the media after the executive and corre committee meeting of the BJP here on Thursday November 5, party vice president, Arvind Limbavali, said that his party is ready to face gram panchayat election.

Congress state working president, Ishwar Khandre noted that the court has sought the election to be held on schedule. He said that the election commisison should convene a meeting of all the parties, arrive at a consensus and then hold the election. JD(S) state president, H D Kumaraswamy felt that it would be dangerous to hold the election now in the light of the pandemic. He has sought postponement of the election.
