Mangaluru, Nov 7: A person who was resting at his home after the day's work died after lightning struck him on Thursday, November 5 evening. The deceased was Suresh Acharya (52) from Kainthila in Vittal Casba village.

Acharya attended to carpentry work at Chandalike and reached his home in the evening. He was taking rest. The area was getting some rain coupled with intense lightning. As he did not get up for dinner at night, the family members went to him and found that he was very sick. They tok Acharya to the hospital at Vittal where the doctors confirmed that he had been hit by lightning. No other family members suffered lightning shocks. It is believed that Suresh, who was of lean build, would have suffered lightning directly.

During the 24-hour period ended Friday morning, Dharmasthala registered seven cm rainfall. Bengaluru, Ramanagara etc also received good rain. Puttur and Sullia received one cm rainfall each. Lowest temperature in the state of 11 degree Celsius was recorded at Bidar.

The meteorological department has predicted coastal region of Karnataka and some places in south interior Karnataka to receive rainfall coupled with thunder. This prediction is valid till Sunday morning.
