Mangaluru: Kadike Trust honours senior weavers

Mangaluru, Nov 9: Padupanamboor Weavers Society, Haleyangadi organized a programme to honour Vyasaraya Shettigar and Shanta Devi Prasad, a national level award winner by Craft Council. Office bearers and members of Padupanamboor Society, Kadike Trust representatives and MD of Talipady Weavers Society participated in the event.

During the event, senior weavers, Shree Vyasaraya Shettigar, Booba Shettigar, Lokayya Shettigar, Sarojini Shettigar and dyer Annu Devadiga were honoured by Kadike Trust for their service in the handloom industry. Sanmana includes naturally dyed shawls woven by trainees at Talipady Weavers Society and a cash reward.

Kadike Trust supports Padupanamboor Society in marketing their products for a better price which results in better remuneration for the weavers. After Kadike Trust's intervention, Vyasaraya Shettigar who wanted to discontinue two years back continued the profession and Booba Shettigar and Lokayya Shettigar who weaved Malabar Mundu returned to Udupi saree weaving.

The members of Padupanamboor Society appreciated the Udupi saree revival efforts by Kadike Trust. Inspired by the progress of Talipady Weavers Society, they decided to work toward increasing the number of weavers at Padupanamboor Society with the support of Kadike Trust.
