Udupi, Nov 9: Street lights between Malpe fisheries port and Malpe beach and from there to Thottam church are reportedly not working properly. Locals are facing lot of problems because of the issue. Malpe Ambedkar Yuvasene held protest to express resentment at the official apathy.

Dalit leader Jayan Malpe, speaking on the occasion accused the municipal administration which rose to power with the promise of building a clean and beautiful Udupi, of turning its eyes away from the problems. He accused the people's representatives of failing to address problems faced in their wards.

He said that street light problem has been grave in Malpe. "Our problems are not getting attended. If the people's representatives are unable to work for the people,they have to get down from power," he demanded.

Another leader, Ganesh Nergi said that complaints were made to officials several times about the street lights problem but they have not attended to it. He charged the thick-skinned officials of not being able to properly understand the problems faced by the Dalits. He said that now only a symbolic protest was held against the failure of the administration. He warned that Ambedkar Yuvasene will hold stronger protest if the problem remains unattended.
