Mangaluru, Nov 9: The YCS Neermarga unit under the able stewardship and excellent guidance of Fr Anil D Mello presented a virtual stage for parishioners to unveil their tuneful voices and awakened their confidence at the singing contest.
Contest highlights and terms and conditions for participation were forwarded in the parish WhatsApp group. The aspirants sang from the comfortable ambience of their homes and sent in an audition video in lieu of a live performance to the particular WhatsApp number assigned to each category. With ardor and zest, 78 contenders from sixteen wards took part in the solo and married couple segments. The contest had various genres of boys and girls aged 5-10, 11-15, 16-30, 30-50, 50–70 and 70 above. Videos sent in by the contestants were displayed on the LCD projector and judged by well-known vocalists and singers Fr Joel Lopes, OFM Capuchin and Jude Fernandes, Milagres on aspects such as pitch and quality of voice, rhythm, expression and modulation, clarity of words and general presentation. The winners were presented trophies. The technical aspects were efficaciously taken care of by Lester Saldanha, former YCS president and Jackson Mascarenhas, the vice-president.
The event was a replication of the immense talent and commitment on the part of the parishioners.
