Udupi, Nov 10: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) which is on the threshold of its golden jubilee celebrations, here, recognised the services of 76 agriculture-based families and honoured them as part of their 29th programme.
Udupi district department of agriculture joint director, Dr H Kempegowda led the buffaloes of Kambala to the fields and set the programme in motion. He said that the department is prepared to provide full cooperation to agriculture families. “Farmers should receive the necessary facilities from the union and state government. Felicitation to families of farmers in three villages here is commendable.”
Udupi diocese chancellor, Fr Stany B Lobo said that farmers are the backbone of the country. “We can be at ease if farmers work hard. The profession of all the people in the olden days was agriculture. But time has changed. As youth that is coming from agriculture families are not interested in agriculture, agricultural land has remained barren. The government and social groups should provide importance and support to agriculture.”
ICYM Udyavar golden jubilee committee as part of its 29th programme, identified and felicitated 76 families together that have indulged in agriculture on half acre or more land, families who rear Kambala buffaloes, families who rear more than five cows or rear sheep or pigs. Similarly three specially abled persons were honoured.
Udyavar veterinarian, Dr Sandeep Kumar, Udupi taluk Kisan unit president Subhashith Kumar, district panchayat member Geetanjali Suvarna, former district panchayat member Diwaker Kunder, Vaman Bangera, former taluk panchayat vice-president Ganesh Kumar Udyavar, Kannarpadi Jayadurga Parameshwari temple managing committee president, Krishnamurthi Acharya Kinnimulki, Alevoor Milk Producers Association president, Harish Kini, Chaitanya Foundation president, Sunil Salian, Sr Maria, ICYM president, Roy Castelino and others were on the dais.
ICYM Udyavar golden jubilee festival committee president, Michael D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Julian Danti rendered the vote of thanks. Programme convenor, Steven Colaco Udyavar compered the programme.
