Mangaluru, Nov 13: On Thursday November 12 morning, the police personnel of Bajpe station succeeded in taking into custody one of the members of a gang that was trying to steal cattle. The arrest was made near the Addoor check post.

A car with nylon ropes, knife, iron rod used for being planted in the earth and tethering the cattle, a sachet of chilly powder and a cellphone were confiscated from the possession of the accused.

The arrested accused happens to be Tanveer(21). Those escaped have been identified as Mustafa, Siyad, Afraz and Junaid.

The Bajpe police on night rounds were checking vehicles near Addoor check post at around 4.30 am on Thursday when a red colour car which came from the direction of Kaikamba was signalled to stop. The car driver acted as if he was slowing down to stop, but suddenly tried to turn the car back. The police then stopped the car. The others fled when the police were taking Tanveer into custody.

During the questioning, the accused reportedly confessed that the gang was trying to steal cattle which were either left for grazing or tethered inside the cattle sheds. He said that in case anyone tries to obstruct them, they threaten the obstructors with a knife and sickle, it is said.

The Bajpe police has registered a case and are investigating.
