Udupi: Sand Art Sculpture display marks World Diabetic Day celebration at Kasturba Hospital Manipal

Udupi, Nov 14: Every year November 14 is celebrated worldwide as Diabetes Day.

The department of Endocrinology of Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal observed the day in a unique way by a sand art display to promote awareness on diabetes at Malpe beach.

Dr Sharat K Rao dean of KMC unveiled the sand sculpture and said, “India is number two in the world as regards the number of diabetic patients. More concern is, out of this, 2/3rd of the patients are from south India. This year the theme is ‘Nurse and Diabetes’. Nurses play key roles in providing lifelong care to people with diabetes, including screening, regular check-ups, psychological support and information on self-management and healthy living."

C G Muthana, the chief operating officer, and Dr Avinash Shetty, the medical superintendent jointly inaugurated the selfie stand, and Dr Sahana Shetty, the head of the department of Endocrinology gave an overview of the unique programme.
