Mangaluru, Nov 15: Mangalore University has announced the resumption of offline classes for final year undergraduate and post-graduate students from November 17, as per the guidelines of the state government and the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Though the rate of coronavirus infection has gone down considerably in the district, there is still concern especially among parents. In this context, certain guidelines have been issued for students attending classes to ensure their safety.

Students appearing for classes need to bring a no-objection certificate (NOC) from parents in the prescribed form. A copy of the form can be downloaded from the University's website. Students who do not wish to attend the classes personally can attend online classes.

Students should get tested compulsorily for COVID-19, three days prior to attending classes. Only those who test negative will be allowed to attend classes. Water and food should be brought from home, and face mask should be worn compulsorily at all times.

If needed, teaching, laboratory and project classes will be conducted in shifts. Students should maintain physical distance as per the guidelines issued by the health department. Those who have symptoms of fever, cough and breathlessness will not be allowed to enter the campus.

Dr P S Yedapadithaya, chancellor of Mangalore Univesity said, "All 210 colleges that are affiliated to Mangalore University have been instructed to allow students to attend classes following the pandemic guidelines. Only 50% of the students would be allowed in a classroom in order to maintain social distance."

Besides, the state health department has also instructed all colleges to conduct COVID tests for students, teachers and non-teaching staff prior to the resumption of classes.
