Bengaluru: Education dept allows 20% additional admissions in govt degree colleges

Bengaluru, Nov 15: With the intention of increasing the number of admissions in the government degree colleges of the state, department of college education has approved admissions of additional students according to demand.

The department of college education has agreed to admit additional students based on the courses available and the number of classrooms in the institution.

In order to increase the number of admissions in higher education, university and government colleges can give 20% more admission than the already prescribed limit.

Clarifying the subject, the department said, "If the students wish to enrol themselves in the college, even after the intake limit is full, such students should be admitted. The principal of the college need not get confused in this regard. Admission should be given based on the available classes. If less than 15 students get admitted to one section, then they can be added to the existing section. If more than 15 students get admitted additionally, then permission is granted to open a new department. This will apply only to optional subjects.

"If the fundamental infrastructure of the college cannot bear additional students, such colleges should run the classes in shifts or batches. Permission is granted to run separate batches in the morning and afternoon."

Colleges are going to begin classes from November 17. The workforce is formed to follow safety measures in colleges. The director of collegiate education will be the president of the force. Additional director, joint director and nodal officers will be the members of the force. This committee should coordinate with the principals of government and private aided colleges and see that the classes are conducted as per the standard operating procedure (SoP) guidelines as per the instructions given by the commissioner of college and technical education to the principals of the colleges.
