Mangaluru Nov 17: Fire erupted in a rented house in an old residental-cum-commercial complex located at Pandith House near Thokkottu, Ulal on Monday November 16. A woman staying on rent in one of the houses lost all her belongings in the tragedy.

The woman in question has been identified as Vidya Shetty. She has been living in the first floor rented house located in Vijaya Complex from the last eight years. The complex, which is very old has become dilapidated. Vidya is employed in a hospital in the city and as usual, she had left home on Monday morning after locking her home. In her absence, fire spread and destroyed her cash, gold ornaments, clothes and other belongings. The fire happened at around noon, and a short circuit appears to have caused the fire.

Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames. Rs 12,000 in cash Vidya Shetty had kept inside her home was burnt while her golden chain and two golden rings have gone missing. Her cot, almirah etc too were reduced to ashes. Ullal police who visited the spot scrutinised the things, and registered a case.
