Hassan, Nov 26: Sri Shambhulinga Shivacharya Swamiji (37), who was heading the branch of Balehonnur Rambhapuri Math at Karjuvalli in Alur taluk in the district hanged himself inside the Math premises on Wednesday, November 25.

In a death note left behind, the Swamiji said that he himself was solely responsible for his death. So far, no plausible reasons for his taking this extreme step could be found.

The Swamiji, whose original name of Sathish Devaru and whose parents were Sangameshwar and Gowramma in Halihal village, Karwar taluk, had studied at the Rambhapuri Mathi at Belehonnur, Chikkamagaluru district. Rambhapuri Swamiji had picked him to head the branch Math at Karjuvalli in the year 2006 when he was 19. After giving him the new name Sri Shambhulinga Shivacharya Swamiji, he had been sent to the Mathi's branch at Karjuvalli to manage the spiritual and worldly affairs of the Math there.
