Rotary Brahmavar organizes interaction programme 'Our People's Safety is Our Goal'

Udupi, Nov 27: Rotary Brahmavar organized, 'Our People's Safety is Our Goal' an interaction programme with government officials, police, zilla panchayat members and public on the topic accidents in Brahmavar surrounding areas, causes and solutions, held at Rotary hall Brahmavar here on Wednesday, November 25.

Pushpa, ASI Kota police station opined that in just 2020, around 111 road accident cases were reported in national highways due to negligence of people. There are five Black spots identified by the police department they are Brahmavar junction, Akashvani junction, Kumragodu junction, Heroor Uppoor National Highways and opposite to Mahesh hospital junction.

She was presenting the report of total accident cases that were registered in Brahmavar police limits between 2015 to 2020 and said that 24 accident cases were reported in opposite Mahesh hospital, 34 cases in Akashvani, 20 cases in Kumbragodu and 111 cases in Uppoor - Heroor national highway, which includes both fatal and non-fatal accidents.


Alwyn Andrade, immediate past president of Rotary Brahmavar said the unscientific underpass at Brahmavar is the main causes for the road mishaps. People should see all eight sides before crossing the road. The service road in front of Mahesh hospital is also incomplete.

He further said, "There is a need to make circles or install signals in main junctions. It will avoid road accidents. Incomplete service roads are the another cause to road accidents. As Brahmavar is a developing city, National Highway authority should take special interest to speed up construction work. There is also a need to install high resolution CCTVs in dangerous spots."

RTO officer J P Gangadhar said, "People should be behave consciously and like civilised citizen while driving. If they abide by the traffic norms, the number of accidents may possibly reduce. We ourselves are responsible for our lives. About 90 percent of the accidents have caused to fatal deaths. Wearing helmet and tying seat belt is the one and best solution for all in saving lives. Take all necessary precautions while driving vehicles. I will consider the public opinion and make a report to better and safe the traffic system," he added.

He assured to conduct a meeting with bus owners association immediately. "I will convey and discuss over lower pedestrians system in public transport."

Brahmavar Taluk panchayat president Jyothi Uday Poojary said that there is no footpath, zebra cross at Brahmavar and senior citizens need lower pedestrian transport system.

Aroor Thimmappa Shetty, president of Rotary Brahmavar said, "Around 1,54,000 road accidents cases were reported in the nation, out of 60 percent cases were just because of over speeding. Parents should not give vehicles in the hands of minor youths."

Dr Ajith Kumar Shetty, senior physician of Brahmavar Community health center expressed that when accident occur, the public should respond immediately and take them to hospital by keeping aside mobile phones. "First call emergency service or create a safe zone for the injured instead of standing around him. Do not give water to drink as it may causes difficulty in breathing. Please check pulse or breathing rate of the injured. Soon after the accident, people should come forward to help them because it is golden hour to save their lives."

He requested to keep first aid box in all vehicles. "Arrange a good ventilation instead of talking to each other in groups, give support to their head and neck while taking them out from the vehicle as there are sensitive nerves in those part. If not it may cause paralysis or partial organ failure. Hence, people should have basic rescue sense. It can save hundreds of golden lives."

MLA Raghupati Bhat was irked by the absence of NHAI officials. "Their presence gives a solution to all problems created by unscientific NH road construction. They always turn deaf to public grievances. People should always follow traffic norms for their safety and should develop traffic sense in them. Traffic signals at Brahmavar and Akashvani junctions may reduce accidents. The service to be extended from the front side of Mahesh hospitals to Baikady."

Public demanded strict implementation of traffic rules and regulations. There is no proper parking areas. Some unwanted faded barricades on highway is also another reason for road mishaps.

Mairmady Sudhakar Shetty stressed on strict implementation of license, vehicle documents and maintenance of roads.

B Jayaram of Red Cross society, Sheela K Shetty, vice president of zilla panchayat, Sudhakar Shetty Mairmady, member, zilla panchayat, Ananth Padmanabha, circle inspector Brahmavar, Kiran Goraiah, Brahmavar Tahashildar and others were present.
