Ballari, Dec 8: IRD UCF DPC and Catholic Sabha Udupi held a programme on Universal Fraternity of Humanity at the Bishop’s House, Ballari on December 6.
Fr Ivan Pinto, PRO at St Anthony' community centre, Cantonment, Ballari in a message said that God has created all of us with equal amounts of rights, duties and dignity and called on us to live like brothers and sisters. The words are mentioned in the book signed by Pope Francis when he met Grand Imam Ahmad in Abu Dhabi on February 4, 2019.
Swamy Chidananda Saraswathi and Sadhvi Bhagawath Saraswathi visited the pope in the Vatican and said, “You have given a new intention and meaning to religion. You have become a trusted world leader thinking of good for the world, aiming of nurturing and realizing increased confidence among people all over the world.”
The pope said though we advocate different religions, we have to unite and chant the mantra of peace if we have to live like brothers and sisters. Therefore, those who gather here including Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists should try for the betterment of each other. The Pope washes the feet of visitors belonging to other religions when they leave.
The pope released an official letter titled ‘Fratelli Tutti’ on October 3, the festival of St Francis Assisi which means that all are brothers and sisters. The letter has eight chapters and 287 paragraphs.
The pope expressed anxiety about the factors that hinder democracy, freedom and public growth of values relating to justice. He states that globalized society makes us neighbours but does not make us brothers and sisters. We should not consider only those who are close to us as our neighbours but accept all as part of our family by showing love and compassion. We should give up our selfish attitude.
"We can look after incoming migrants in excellent ways uplifting their dignity. Politicians should not only look for votes but inculcate productivity, diversity and business acumen. Digital connectivity is not sufficient to bridge human relationships. Covid pandemic has shown the inadequacy in maintaining our societies. Developed and rich countries have lost in those efforts.
"Therefore, all of us are Indians for our country. This country supports fraternity, patience, peace and harmony. Let us all join hands with each other, like we stitch what is torn and give up the attitude of dividing and live like brothers and sisters," said Fr Ivan Pinto.
