Udupi: BJP calls farmers' protest baseless, opposition's political gimmick

Udupi, Dec 8: "There is no meaning to farmers’ protest. Some opposition parties are motivating the farmers to stage protest against the union government. The farmers’ laws are amended keeping the future in the mind," said by district BJP spokesperson Guruprasad Katpady.

He was speaking at a press meet at Kadiyali office here on Tuesday, December 8, Guruprasad further said that, “There were allegations that FPTC (Farmers' Produce Trading and Commerce) Act and its provisions are seen as weakening the APMC. But the government has a long vision and the amendments will curb the problems of middlemen or brokers.

Much of the opposition is just to one among three laws are Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act.

"BJP is always there with farmers and became the voice of farmers. Modi has improved the market system and this is a part of development. Modi’s slogan is 'Beeja se Bajar thak'. According to this slogan every single farmer should get a high price for his yield and double the income of farmers by 2022," he added.

Praveen Kumar Gurme, district president, Raitha Morcha, Shivakumar Ambalpady, co-spokes person, Srinidhi Hegde, convener of media prakoshta, and Dinesh Shetty, co-convener were present.

    The BJP Govt has made a mockery of Parlimentary Democracy by passing these Farm Bills without a discussion in the house or taken any of the stake holders into confidence. They finally passed it in the Rajya Sabha in a most deceitful manner through a voice vote making a mokery of Parlimatery Democracy just to please their Crony Capitalist friends at the expense of the Farmers.
