Udupi: 'Contribution of home guards to maintain social harmony is immense' – DC G Jagadeesha

Udupi, Dec 11: “It is commendable that home guards are working with the police in coordination to maintain harmony in the society,” said deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha. He was speaking after inaugurating all India Home Guards Day in the Home Guards office on Friday, December 11.

“It is great that the day is being celebrated by donating blood. A blood donor can save the lives of four people. Udupi is a model district in blood donation and I congratulate home guards who joined hands in this connection,” he said.

“The contribution of home guards in the tourism sector is unforgettable. Home guards who are experts in swimming are appointed in Malpe beach. They work realizing the importance of tourism and the responsibility to rescue people,” he said.

SP N Vishnuvardhan said that home guards are working as an indivisible part of the police force and are committed to the safety of society and civilians. “Their sacrifice during natural calamities is commendable. Their contribution to maintaining peace and order is immense,” he said.

District commandant Dr Prashanth Shetty who presided over the programme said that over 500 home guards are working in the district at present across eight units including Udupi, Manipal, Kaup, Padubidri, Karkala, Brahmavara, Kundapur and Byndoor. “They also work in the tourism department, RTO office, NCC and the prison. They have worked boldly during the coronavirus pandemic and have garnered appreciation from the people,” he said.

A Blood donation camp and free medical check-up camps were held as part of the celebrations.

SP N Vishnuvardhan, DySP Jayashankar, circle inspector Manjunath, constable Santhosh and district commandant Dr Prashanth Shetty who were felicitated by the chief minister this year and Karnataka Rajyotsava awardee Dr Krishnaprasad Kudlu were honoured in the programme.

District commandant Dr K Prashanth Shetty, Udupi Prasad Netralaya medical director Dr Krishna Prasada and others were present.

District home guards second in command K C Rajesh welcomed. First-grade assistant Shamala rendered a vote of thanks. Sainath Udyavar compered the programme.
