Bantwal, Dec 12: It is alleged that former Thumbe gram panchayat vice president Pravin B Thumbe interrupted the official work of Thumbe gram panchayat assistant election officer Chandravati and election officer Dr Manjunath Udupa and posed death threats to them. A case in this connection is registered in Bantwal rural police station.

On Friday, the last day to file nominations for gram panchayat elections, it is said that no one had come to file their nominations from ward-1 under scheduled tribe woman reserved category . As per rules, there is a provision that scheduled caste women can file the nomination in the absence of scheduled tribe category woman candidate, therefore, a candidate from the scheduled caste had filed a nomination.

At around 3.00 pm, after the scheduled time former Thumbe gram panchayat vice president Pravin B Thumbe arrived at the office questioning the election officers for having taken nomination papers from a scheduled caste woman. He spoke in a high tone, beating on the table, throwing away the concerned documents and hindered the work of the election officers. He has hurled abusive words against the female election officer, her daughters and about her private life without considering that she is a woman. He has allegedly threatened the officer to not allow her to work in the office.

A police complaint against Thumbe is lodged at Bantwal rural police station.
