Beltangady: Intoxicated driver who caused teacher's death sentenced 18 months jail term

Beltangady, Dec 14: A driver who was under the influence of some intoxicating substance when he caused an accident in which a lady teacher had died, has been handed down 18 months jail term and fined by a court here. The driver who was punished has been identified as Suit Morab.

A van driven by the accused had dashed against an auto-rickshaw driven by Abubakker near the petrol bunk at Ujire on February 28, 2017. In the accident, teacher of Laila St Mary's School, Ashwini, who was travelling as a passenger in the ill-fated auto-rickshaw, had lost her life. Two others in the three-wheeler Sumayya from Sullia taluk and her son, Muhammed Shaan, were injured in the accident.

The then Beltangady circle inspector of police, Nagesh Kadri, had filed a charge sheet in the court against van driver, Sumit Morab. The court imposed 18 months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 6,500 under different sections.
