Mangalore, Jun 1: The second batch of DNA reports pertaining to the unidentified bodies of the victims of the air crash were not received on Monday May 31 as expected. In-charge deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Prabhakar Sharma, told the reporters that the laboratory in Hyderabad, which has been entrusted with the task of conducting the DNA tests to confirm the identities of the bodies, was contacted and that the laboratory has told the district administration that the reports are likely to be received by the latter on Tuesday June 1.

12 bodies remain to be delivered to the kin of the deceased. In the meanwhile, the fact that the bodies of two children, who lost their lives in the crash, could not be found after extensive search, has added to the woes of a family. The bodies of Mohammed Zubair (5) and Zainab Ziad (3), children of Shamina Ziad and Mohammed Ziad, both of whom died in the crash, have not yet been found.

Reportedly, the relatives had identified the bodies of these two children at Wenlock Hospital in the city. However, based on information that more bodies of parents and children were also kept in another hospital, they had rushed there. By the time they came back, another family reportedly had claimed these two bodies and taken them away.

I was a witness to the identification process at Wenlock Hospital. There was no procedures backed by policy to identify the charred Bodies. It was evident that the Administration wanted to get rid of the bodies at the earliest as it had not alternative arrangements to store them overnight. So any claim was welcome. Bodies were dished out without verification of the claimants including DNA.

What 70 odd bodies remained too had no respect and they rotted on the morgue floor overnight. Amicable solution was the buzz word. "Take any body and atleast you will get the claim". Even in death there is no peace. Where is our 'disaster mangement processes'. See the same drama repeated in the train tragedy in West Bengal. This is what our politicians have delivered. And the same class had the audacity to offer condolence at the all religious meet. Should we Indians be complacent any further.
