Mangalore Plane Crash : 26 More Kin get Air India Relief


Mangalore, Jun 6 (DHNS): Air India has distributed 26 cheques worth Rs 2.67 crore, being the interim compensation and Prime Minister’s Relief Fund relief, to the kin of those who died in the Air India Express flight IX 812 aircrash on Saturday. 

While Rs 2.15 crore was distributed as the interim compensation, Rs 52 lakh was distributed as the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund relief. Air India had disbursed claims of Rs 7.56 crores to 84 families till evening on Friday. They disbursed interim compensation of Rs 4.82 crores to 54 families during 28th and 29th May 2010. On June 3, 2010, interim compensation of Rs 1.82 crores was disbursed to 20 families. On Friday, interim compensation of Rs 92 lakhs was disbursed to 10 families.

Air India will be disbursing Rs 2 lakh to the family of a deceased and Rs 50,000 for a survivor of mishap from the PM’s Relief fund from June 10 to the claimants who received the interim compensation during the first phase on May 28 and 29.  The claimants can meet the Air India officials at the camp to be held at Hotel Ocean Pearl, Navbharat Circle, Kodiabail on June 10 from 10.30 am onwards along with proof of identity in original. The cheque will be made in the name of the rightful claimants who were paid the interim compensation.

In case the claimant cannot present him/herself on the said date, he may either authorise in writing for handing over the same to the person holding the Power of Attorney or to send the same by post to the contact address in records. ‘CM’s relief to crash victims soon’

The compensation announced by the State government to the victims of Mangalore air tragedy will be released soon. The relatives of the victims are seen running from pillar to post to get the compensation from the state government.

According to a press release from Additional Deputy Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma, to avoid inconvenience to the members, as soon as the district administration gets intimation on the release of compensation from the state government, Deputy Commissioner’s office will contact the victims family members through telephone and also the same will be announced through newspapers.

Of the 158 persons killed in the air crash, death certificates have been issued to 131 through single window system. Measures will be taken to distribute certificates for others too, the release stated.
