Bangladeshi Actor Bulbul Ahmed Dead


Dhaka, Jul 16 (IANS): Veteran Bangladeshi film actor Bulbul Ahmed who portrayed memorable roles based on Bengali literary classics, including "Devdas", is dead. He was 69.

Tabarruk Ahmed Bulbul died Thursday after fighting prolonged illness.

"Actor Rahman, popularly known as Chunilal, left me several years back. And this time, Devdas has left me," said Chashi Nazrul Islam, director of the film "Devdas".

Based on a novel by Saratchandra Chatttopadhyaya, "Devdas" starred Bulbul and created a stir among the audiences.

Bulbul worked as a banker from 1965 to 1975. His acting career began with theatre and his big break came with the film "Iye Korey Biye" in 1972, the Daily Star said.

His directorial debut "Rajlakkhi Srikanto", which released in 1987, won him the national award for direction.
