Moodbidri, Jul 20: A five-year-old boy named Vinyas, son of Dombaiah Poojary, residing in Moodukonaje village near here, drowned in a canal flowing near his home on Monday July 19.
Vinyas was following his mother, who was driving the cows back home from the grazing land. While walking on the hedges of the agricultural fields, he slipped and fell into the canal. Because of the heavy rains, the water level in the canal was high. Although the boy’s mother immediately jumped into the canal and lifted her son out of the water, he breathed his last on the way to the hospital.
