Puttur: Sampya School Hosts Workshop on Environmental Awareness

Puttur, Aug 2: “The town council aims to achieve total cleanliness in all areas under its limits.  Meanwhile, the civic body seeks the support of citizens to effectively combat the issue”, said town councilor Rajesh Bannur.

He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on environmental awareness at Sampya School, near here, on Saturday July 31. The awareness workshop was organized under the aegis of the town council, community development network sub-project, under Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojna (SJSRY). 

Bannur further said that the plastic menace has reached unbearable proportions and this has a great impact on the environment. He requested the support of citizens in curbing the excessive use of plastic and said the civic body plans to enforce a total ban on plastic.

Bala Vikas Samiti president and council member Ramesh Rai presided over the programme.

He said that the Anganawady that was set up under SJSRY in Sampya, near here, has been functioning efficiently and has taken the lead in effectively curbing the plastic menace.

Sheena Shetty, president, Jana Shikshan Trust, Mangalore, was the resource person. She called on the residents to be committed in reducing the excessive use of plastic. 

District urban development nodal officer Irene Lobo appealed to the citizens to extend their whole-hearted support towards the cleanliness drive of the civic body.

Child development zonal overseer Damayanti, council member Yashodha Poojary, community development chief Pushpa, school betterment committee president Umavati, organizer Usman, and KDP member Shashikala, were present on the dais.

Anganawady staff Aruna D welcomed the gathering. School headmistress Tanuja proposed the vote of thanks. Mounesh Vishwakarma compered the programme.

Skits and poetry recitation towards creating environmental awareness were performed by the students of Sampya School as part of the programme. Chaitanya Stree Shakti self-help group extended assistance.
