Mangalore, Aug 2: ‘Sangeetha-Nrithya’ weekly, a distinct programme was organized for the inmates of the jail by the Ranga Bharathi and Karavali College MSW department in association with Mangalore City Corporation, at Central jail, here on Sunday August 1.

The programme commenced with the presentation of Naada geethe ‘Jai Bharatha Jananiya Thanujathe’ through the form of dance followed by the welcomed dance.
The song ‘Thappu madadavru yaravre’ won the hearts of inmates.

Speaking on the occasion, district-in-charge minister Krishna Palemar said, “All those who were in jail are not convicts. Many such cultural programmes need to be arranged in the jail. The accused should not have a feeling that society will not recognize them after entering the portals of a jail”.

Palemar later paid visit to the kitchen and store room of the jail and was unhappy with the quality of food that was being served to the inmates.  He assured the inmates that necessary steps would be taken within a week to set right their problems. He gave some special instructions to the officials on the kind of food that is to be served and also said that cable connection can be provided in the jail. Lot of reforms needs to be done, he added.

“Change in the mind can bring about change in the society. Mind should be peaceful and calm. Jail is only a temporary house for the inmates. Mistakes are made unknowingly most of the times and jail is a place to reform them and later lead a good life after coming out of the jail”, said Karavali Group of Colleges founder president S Ganesh Rao.

Danseuse Vidya Rao Kateel was felicitated on the occasion.  Mayor Rajani Dugganna, entrepreneur Sripathi Bhat, Karnataka Rajya Kalavidara Kalyana Vedike president Kechanur Shankar, corporator Roopa D Bangera, Narayana M Surathkal and Geetha Saralaya among others were present.
