Bengaluru, Apr 24: A high level committee of experts and officials, which met along with representatives of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Bengaluru on Saturday under the chairmanship of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar has decided to constitute a task force with industry participation in collaboration with CII for controlling the surge of Covid pandemic.

The meeting held with CII representatives in the virtual mode decided the task force with CII and the State Health Department will suggest and implement steps for strengthening the medical and infrastructural facilities. The task force will involve itself in tackling all problems pertaining to the Covid pandemic, call centres, creation of ICU facilities besides providing technical support in the health sector.

The meeting took note of the fact that the establishment of multiple call centres in the Covid management was likely to create confusion among the people and therefore it was necessary to establish a well-equipped bigger call centre network by coordinating all efforts. While the task force will provide the technical support, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences will provide training for the staff of the call centre for seamless functioning.

Dr Sudhakar said the State Government has made preparations for establishing a 3,000 to 5,000 bed modular ICU facility for the Covid positive patients. Some companies have come forward to establish such ICU facilities in the next 7 to 10 days, he said asking the task force to provide necessary guidance.

The Corporate sector companies have decided to utilize their CSR funds for establishing the ICU facility as suggested by the Centre. While these facilities need technical support which could be handled by the task force along with assistance in the import of Remdesivir injections and other medicines for the purpose.

CII former President Kris Gopalakrishnan, Vikram Kirloskar and Dr Devi Shetty participated in the virtual meeting.
