Mangalore, Aug 9: The inaugural of the three-day management development programme on “Research Methods for Social Sciences - A Skill Building Approach” took place at MBA department of AIMIT, St Aloysius College (autonomous) here at 9.20 am on Monday August 9.
 
The programme began with an invocation rendered by the MBA students of AIMIT. Dr P S Yadapadithaya, registrar (evaluation), Mangalore University lit the lamp and declared the workshop open. Fr Denzil Lobo, director, AIMIT Fr Oswald Mascarenhas, chairman of MBA department, AIMIT,  Dr A M Narahari, registrar (evaluation), St Aloysius College (autonomous), Dr S Sridhar, dean, MBA department, AIMIT, graced the occasion.

Dr Oswald Mascarenhas in his inaugural address highlighted the movements of research and social research methodology. He said that besides induction and deduction in research, the new concept of abduction is also very important to make the date convey real information and create new knowledge.
 
The chief guest for the management development programme Dr P S Yadapadithaya inaugurated the three-day programme. He stressed on the need for commitment more than involvement and a felt desire towards research. Dr Yadapadithaya felt the need of KASHV in a researcher, that is, domain specific Knowledge, Aptitude to determine attitude, Skill based approach to come out with the best inference, Habits, and Value based research which refers to the ethical side of research.

He also mentioned that a lot of  fraud takes place and many times research scholars resort to cut, copy, paste and doctored research. He also talked about  the five types of people: researchers who make things happen, researchers who think they make things happen, those who watch things happen, researchers who wonder how things happen, and lastly researchers who do not know what has happened. Hence he stressed the need for updation of knowledge.
 
Fr Denzil Lobo expressed his delight on the good response received for the management development programme. He mentioned that the Aloysian Institutions once again want to highlight the vision statement 'Lucent et Ardet' which means 'shine to enkindle' enthusing the students of the institution to be the best and become men and women for others to form a just and equitable society. He also handed over a memento to Dr P S Yadapadithaya.
 
More than 35 researchers from various institutions participated in this programme. 
 
Sumitha Achar, joint coordinator delivered the welcome address. Claret D’Souza, faculty of MBA, AIMIT gave the vote of thanks and Dr Rowena Wright compered the programme.
 
AIMIT also plans to organize more MDP programmes in the near future. A few more workshops with hands-on experience will be conducted to students and research scholars who have had no exposure to research tools.
