Udupi: Zephyr Organizes Men’s Single Open Badminton Championship

Udupi, Aug 18: Zephyr, the student forum at department of commerce, Manipal University organized Men’s Single Open Badminton Championship at MIT Indoor Badminton Hall, Manipal here, recently. The event proved to be a success with participation of 65 players across the state.

The event was inaugurated by the chiefgGuest Pramod Madhwaraj, industrialist, Udupi. Madwaraj appreciated the event of Zephyr as a step towards development of sportsmanship amongst new generation.

The event was presided by Dr H N Udayashankar, registrar evaluation, Manipal University and the guest of honour was Prakash Kodavoor, trustee Sri Narayan Guru English Medium School, Malpe.

The event started after in-charge and co-ordinator of department of commerce Sandeep Shenoy tossed a shuttle over the badminton court along with esteemed guests present. The chief referee for the event was Ashok Paniyadi.

Venkatesh Kamath, student of department of commerce won the championship winning a cash prize of Rs 4,444 and runner-up Mithun Kumar won a cash prize of Rs 2,222 , the cash prizes were given away by Guru Prasad Rao, faculty and Zephyr co-ordinator and Siddharth S Bhandarkar, president, Zephyr.

The office-bearers of Zephyr expressed gratitude to Dr Kemparaj H B, director, physical education, MIT, Manipal for the support extended to the event's success.
