Puttur, Aug 19: Hemant (35), a resident of Kateel, who was driving a Mahindra Xylo vehicle, died after a tanker carrying LPG hit his vehicle at Uppinangady Mutt on national highway 48 on Wednesday August 18.

Reportedly, the vehicle Hemant was driving belongs to Lakshinarayan Asranna, chief preist of Kateel temple. Hemant was coming back after dropping Asranna’s relatives in Bangalore, it is gathered. He was alone in the vehicle, when the accident occurred.

The tanker, after hitting the other vehicle, swerved to the side and stopped after getting into the drain. Both the tanker driver, and its cleaner, escaped unhurt. A case was registered in Uppinangady police station in this connection.

Hemant, a native of Mysore, was working as driver in Kateel since sometime. He is survived by wife and a six-year-old son.
