Mangalore, Aug 21: Heavy rain coupled with thunder and lightning drenched temple town Subrahmanya on Friday August 20 evening. Drains overflowed, roads looked like ponds, and rain water entered several houses and shops near Kashikatte in the town.

Water level in River Kumaradhara suddenly swelled, threatening to inundate the bridge. Traffic came to a halt for about half an hour due to overflowing water on the road leading towards Devaragadde. Power supply, telephone and mobile connectivity, got snapped for over three hours.

Reports received from Venur in Beltangady taluk said that household electrical appliances of four houses were damaged due to lightning on Friday evening. Other than the above, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district remained free from rain the entire day on Friday, except for cloudy weather and occasional drizzle.
