Mysore, Aug 23: On his arrival at the university guest house in the city on Sunday August 22 to take part in the Samskritotsav scheduled to be held at the Humanities Block of the university later, state Governor, H R Bhardwaj, felt annoyed and lost his cool as soon as he saw Mysore University vice chancellor, V G Talwar. T

Talwar had come to receive him.  “I thought you are a simple person. But you are playing caste politics. Even after I, in the capacity of the chancellor of the university, ordered that no criminal proceedings should be initiated against the former vice chancellor, J Shashidhar Prasad, you talked to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) representatives and assured them to take up this issue by holding a special meeting of the university syndicate soon. Why don’t you follow the orders,” he fumed.

He told the vice chancellor in front of various dignitaries that the latter was acting as though he is above the chancellor. He warned him that he would talk to the Prime Minister and the minister concerned, to ensure that grants to the university are cut down. It may be recalled that after the students owing allegiance to ABVP laid siege to Crawford Hall in the university on August 17, the vice chancellor talked to them and agreed to take up the issue of the irregularities committed by the previous vice chancellor in the syndicate meeting.

The governor told the vice chancellor not to invite him to any of the programmes being organized by the university. He also refused also to visit the university building. However, after Talwar, who was shocked at the sudden outbursts, promised that he would not issue any statements henceforth, pertaining to issues relating to the former vice chancellor, and after the Governor was told that Sri Visweshateertha Swamiji was waiting at the venue of the programme, did Bhardwaj gave his consent to proceed to the venue of the programme.

During his participation at the Newspaper Day programme organized at Ranibahaddur Hall in the city later, the Governor said he does not want to see persons who have functioned in exalted positions of vice chancellors in jail, and that if proper investigations are held, every vice chancellor would have to be jailed. At the same time, he confessed that he does not know J Shashidhar Prasad personally. He also said he is prepared to leave his post and go back, and if the people do not want him to be here, asserting that he is not lured by the greed to stick to the post of the Governor.
