Udupi: One Dies in Road Accident

Udupi, Aug 24: After a Tata Sumo vehicle and a lorry got involved in a head-on collision at Kalsanka in Yermal village near Padubidri on national highway 17 on the night of Monday August 23, a person travelling in the Sumo, was killed on the spot.

The Tata Sumo vehicle was carrying the employees of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd’s fire tender. A truck bearing Tamil Nadu registration, coming from Kerala, hit the vehicle the firemen were travelling in. Akhilesh, a fireman of UPCL, was killed, while Benni (34) and Srirag (21), who were also travelling in the Sumo, suffered serious injuries.

Both the injured were rushed to a private hospital. Traffic on the national highway was affected as a result of the accident. The Padubidri policemen came on the scene, and arranged for restoration of the traffic.
