Sullia, Aug 25: Veteran actor, director and producer from Sandalwood, Ravichandran, disagreed with the perception that the audience of the state do not encourage Kannada movies. “There is good demand for Kannada films. The size of the audience swells if the quality of the movie is good. Before deciding to produce a movie, the concerned have to keep this in mind,” he opined.

He visited Subrahmanya in the taluk on a short visit Tuesday August 24, to pay obeisance to Lord Subrahmanya at the famous temple here. Speaking to media men during the visit, he said he had been shooting for the film, ‘Mallikarjuna’ at Sakleshpur, and found time in between to visit this town. The film’s producer, Dinesh Gandhi, accompanied Ravichandran.

Contrary to the general belief, Ravichandran did not agree that films made in other languages command more audience in Karnataka than Kannada films. “Kannada movies are in good demand, although television and other media have tried to make inroads into this domain. There is a huge fan following for our films, and people enjoy watching movies in theatres. We have to feed them movies that are good, failing which they might reject the movies outright,” he said.

Ravichandran is presently involved with the making of a big-budget movie, ‘Manjinahani’ in association with Mangalore-based entrepreneur, Prakash Shetty. This movie is set to be released on January 14 next year. He said he wants to bring out good movies from his home production company in future.

He offered Ashlesha Bali and Naga Pratishte services at Lord Subrahmanya temple. He also visited Adisubrahmanya temple and offered puja there. On behalf of the temple management, executive officer, Ningaiah, Mohan Nambiar and Satyanarayan Patali, received the artiste.
