Mangalore, Aug 25: Nagarika Seva Trust president, K Somanath Nayak, said that the state Chief Minister (CM), during his visit to the city, has orally instructed the deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district not to acquire any land for the second phase of Mangalore Special Economic Zone.

He was addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday August 24. “Reposing faith on this assurance, the Padayatra scheduled to be organized against Mangalore Special Economic Zone on September 6 and the mega protest meeting thereupon, have been cancelled. The consultative meeting planned for September 26 in the city has also been cancelled. However, if the officials fail to execute the CM’s instructions, we will take to streets again,” he warned.

Reportedly, the CM issued the above instruction to the DC, after listening to a delegation representing various organizations and watching the video clips on the take over and demolition of Gregory Patrao’s property. The delegation was told by the CM that the government will not go ahead with development projects in Dakshina Kannada district henceforth, without holding consultations with the organizations.
