Mumbai: Parents withdraw petition to send minor to US for vaccine

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Jun 9: The petition of sending a 16-year-old-minor to the US to get vaccinated was withdrawn by the parents. "We do not wish to prosecute the petition. We are withdrawing it," senior advocate Milind Sathe told a bench of Justices Suresh Gupte and Makarand Karnik on behalf of the parents.

Residents of Altamount Road, Viral and Bijal Thakker had urged the high court to appoint her aunt, Purvee Parekh (also a co-petitioner), as her legal guardian to accompany her niece, who is a US citizen by birth. However, the state had opposed the petition saying the Centre must be impleaded as it concerns foreign travel.

The judges, in their order, noted the 'petition is, accordingly, dismissed as not pressed'.
