Bengaluru, Jun 11: The state high court took the state government to task on the issue of the chief minister, B S Yediyurappa's son, B Y Vijayendra's visit to Nanjangud Lord Nanjundeshwara temple at Nanjangud in violation of Covid restrictions.

The court observed that it is not right to apply different yardsticks for politicians and members of the public as it conveys the wrong message to society. It observed that allowing Vijayendra to perform puja is tantamount to violation of Covid guidelines. Therefore, it asked the primary investigation report of Mysuru deputy commissioner on the issue to be filed in the high court.

A bench of the high court presided over by Chief Justice, Justice A S Oka, took up the hearing of several public interest litigations filed concerning violation of Covid guidelines in the state.

State advocate general, Prabhulinga Navadgi, filed a memo regarding the puja said to have been offered by Vijayendra at the said temple. He said that the deputy commissioner of Mysuru district had sought explanations from Vijayenda on this incident, and he explained that during his visit to Nanjangud, at the request of the priest, Vijayendra had paid obeisance at the temple but not participated in any puja there. He also told the bench that the photos submitted to the court about this incident pertain to the year 2018.
