Udupi, Jun 15: A criminal investigation department (CID) entrusted with the task of cracking the murder case of NRI entrepreneur, Bhaskar Shetty, had camped in the town for three months to solve the case by putting together evidences. Because of the efforts put in by the CID and forensic science teams, they could prove the crime. Even though the body of the victim could not be traced, the case was solved with the help of scientific and circumstantial evidence.

Bhaskar Shetty went missing from July 28, 2016, which later was found out to be a case of murder. The case was handed over to CID on August 16. A team of high level officials of the team led by deputy superintendent of police, S T Chandrashekhar, stayed put here to collect supplementary evidence.

Initially phone calls of Bhaskar Shetty and others were checked. Statement of an advocate through whom a will has been executed by Shetty, was obtained. This statement proved to be a critical document for the case. The conspiracy hatched by the accused was revealed with the determined efforts of special public prosecutor in the case, M Shanataram Shetty, and the CID investigating team. In phases, the accused during their questioning, confessed to the crime. During the time the entire scene leading to the murder was recreated, the accused agreed to have committed the crime.

The team had put together information about the presence of the accused at the scene of crime through mobile phone locations. The team also proved with the help of technology that Bhaskar Shetty had reached his home, even though the accused said otherwise. As many as 167 witnesses and 1,500 page charge sheet were provided to the court by the CID team. Hair of Bhaskar Shetty obtained from his hotel room, blood stains s in Niranjan Bhat's car, sample of blood found near a canal near Bhat's residence at Nandalike, and Shetty's bone found from the river were the evidences on which the court relied on when delivering the judgement. The DNA of Bhaskar Shetty was matched with that of his mother Gulabi Shedthi, and brother Suresh.
