Mangalore: Uninterrupted Radar Services at Local Airport from Sep 1

Mangalore, Sep 1: The international airport here will be providing radar service during all the hours of day commencing from Wednesday September 1. Director of the airport, M R Vasudeva, said that till now, the radar facility was available for 19 hours every day, barring the period between 4.30 pm and 9.30 pm.

The upgradation of technology affected for the secondary mono-pulse surveillance radar at the airport will be of help to various flights over flying the region. As it covers a radius of 256 nautical miles, flights from and to Kochi, Kozhikode, Coimbatore and Panaji airports will draw maximum advantage. Even flights to Bangalore will get some support from this radar, he added.

The radar will help prevent mid-air collision of the aircrafts and streamline the traffic to ensure orderly and expeditious movements of flights, he explained.

Vasudeva added that the user development fee of Rs 150 for domestic passengers and Rs 825 for those bound for foreign destinations, will be applicable from Wednesday. This fee will be collected for a period of ten years, he revealed.
