Bengaluru: PU board decides to award grace marks, pass repeaters without exams

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Jul 4: With educational institutions still closed due to Covid, the government has decided to pass repeaters of second PUC without examinations, just like the freshers.

The PU board will give grace marks to repeaters and pass them. Earlier, the state government had passed the freshers without examinations. Repeaters had approached court questioning this stand of PU board. The board formed a committee after the court sought explanation on the matter.

As repeaters do not have any criteria, they are given grace marks in order to promote them to the next grade. Freshers were passed on the basis of their marks obtained in the previous year.

However, private students have not been given any relaxation. They have to write the exams.

Examinations for private candidates will be held once the intensity of the infection gets reduced. The PU board has decided to give five grace marks in addition to minimum pass marks of 35. The government has submited the report drafted by the 12-member committee to the high court, and the matter will be taken up on Monday, July 5.

In total, 6,86,816 students registered for examination for 2020-21 academic year. Out of this 76,387 repeaters and 17,477 private students. After the intensity of infection eases, examinations will be held for private students.
