Udupi, Sep 9: It came to light on the evening of Wednesday September 8 that thieves had gained entry into a house and taken away gold ornaments worth three lac rupees and Rs 15,000 in cash, when the family members were away. The incident occurred in Uchchila Bhaskaranagar near Padubidri.

Shakila Banu and her family have been residing in a rented house in Uchchila since the last four months. On Tuesday afternoon, the family members had gone to Katpady to meet a relative there. When they came back on Wednesday evening, they found the front door of the house having been broken with an axe. The thieves also were found to have broken the doors of three steel almirahs found inside the house, with the help of an axe. They have taken away only the genuine ornaments, leaving the gold-coated ornaments untouched, the family said. The family revealed that the thieves however, failed to detect a secret locker within one of the almirahs and hence the ornaments kept there were saved.

Karkala deputy superintendent of police, Santosh Kumar, circle inspector, Cheluvaraju, and finger print experts visited the spot. A complaint in this connection, was lodged in Padubidri police station.
