Karkala, Sep 13: “The knowledge of many languages leads one to explore new avenues in life. The Konkani-speaking community has contributed significantly to education, trade and commerce, as well as
social spheres of the coastal district. Konkani community has a unique lifestyle and culture”, said MLA H Gopal Bhandary.
He was speaking after inaugurating the state-level Konkani children’s ‘Kala Pratibhotsav’, organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy at Bhuvanendra College, recently.
Bhandary conveyed best wishes for the Konkani Academy in providing a platform for the Konkani-speaking community from all over the world to unveil their inherent talents.
Lawyer Shantaram Kamath was the chief guest who spoke on the occasion. He said that the Konkani-speaking community had migrated from the banks of the Saraswati river in north India during contemporary times to settle in Goa and coastal Karnataka and in the process they also enriched their mother tongue Konkani, culture and literature.
Kamath also felt the need to organize Kala Pratibhotsavs very often, as his will help sustain the survival of Konkani for many generations.

Kala Pratibhotsav organizing member B Pundalika Marate welcomed the gathering. Academy member Vasudev Shanbagh compered the programme. Panduranga Nayak proposed the vote of thanks.
Competitions on painting, folk dance, one-act-play, ‘Sugama Sangeet’, folk singing, and quiz were held.
Town councilor Pratima Mohan was the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony of Konkani Kala Pratibhotsav. Fr John Barboza, parish priest of Christ the King parish, and Bhuvanendra High School headmaster Sridar Acharya, distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions.
