Bengaluru, Aug 17: With Karnataka becoming the first State to decide on implementing the New Education Policy, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has tasked the State’s officials to take the educational institutions in full confidence in the implementation.

Addressing the Higher Education Department officials during the review of the performance in Bengaluru on Tuesday, the Chief Minister wanted the officials to take steps for increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GEP) from the present 32% to 50% in the near future.

The meeting discussed at length on the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP).

The Chief Minister said it was the duty of the Department officials to take all the educational institutions in confidence in implementing the policy as Karnataka is the first State to implement it. Detailed guidelines on the implementation of NEP have already been issued and any problems must be sorted out quickly, he said.

``Not just the heads of the prominent educational institutions but even the private sector institutions must be consulted and an institutional framework for tackling any problems must be evolved,’’ Bommai said.

The Chief Minister suggested that B.Ed. and D.Ed. curriculum must be revised to enable implementation of NEP. Steps must be taken to establish at least one technical educational institution in each district so as to enable the youth to be ready to get employment.

Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, Finance Department Additional Chief Secretary I S N Prasad, Higher Education Department Additional Chief Secretary G Kumar Naik, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary N Manjunath Prasad and senior officials participated in the meeting.
