Udupi, Sep 27: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) personnel enthusiastically participated in a training camp held at a temporary naval base set up at Udyavar here on Monday September 27.
The camp was organized by the directorate office of Karnataka–Goa NCC to prepare them for the All India Naval Cadets selection camp scheduled to be held at Vishakapatanam from Wednesday November 10 to Sunday November 21.
Karnataka–Goa NCC deputy director Air Commander Ravidhar reviewed the training programme here on Monday. Commander Malkiyat Singh, assistant director of training, and Mangalore NCC group commander Colonel Dinesh Naikavade were also present on the occasion.
NCC cadets comprising 96 boys and 62 girls from Mangalore, Udupi, Karwar, Mysore, Bangalore and Goa are participating in the training camp.
The first stage of training will go on till Friday October 1, after which 100 cadets will be shortlisted. In the second stage, 30 boys and 10 girls will be selected to undergo the third stage of training from October 30 to November 9. Those who qualify in the final stage will compete in the all-India selection camp. The cadets are undergoing strenuous training in boat pulling, sailing, boarding the ship, etc.
Training on shooting was given at Kaup sea shore on Monday. The cadets have expressed hopes of qualifying to compete in the national selection camp and are determined to bring laurels to Karnataka–Goa.
Camp Commandant K Udaya Krishna Menon, training officer Colonel Haneef, NCC officers Lieutenant Colonel Dr K Narayan Poojary, and Lieutenant Dr S R Shet were present on the occasion.
