Udupi, Oct 2: As part of the work on the proposed four-lane along National Highway (NH) 17 from Suratkal to Kundapur, near here, one can see that initial preparations are underway alongside the highway in many locations. The construction of culverts and bridges as well as straightening the stretch of NH are going on at a fast pace.
Navayuga Engineering Company, which has secured the contract for four-lane conversion works from Suratkal to Kundapur, a total of 75 kilometers of NH, has set up a massive stockyard of construction
materials at convenient locations in Yadthady near Barkoor and Padubidri, near here close to the NH.
Navayuga has acquired 13 acres of land on lease in Yadthady gram panchayat. If one sees the stockyard, one would be stunned at the mega work going on in a rural location. About 300 construction
workers are working at the facility preparing construction materials for the road and the number of workers will reach 1,000 shortly.
Several divisions are being formed such as ready mixing of concrete, bending steel rods for structural works, and the like. The bulldozers, cranes, forklifts of mega capacity, tippers and dumper trucks, as well
as passenger buses to transport workers from camps to construction sites are parked at the above facility.
The facility will supply all the construction material for the four-lane work. A labour camp and ccommodations for staff, as well as an office block are being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs
2.5 crore. The company buses will ply to various construction sites transporting labourers and the work is likely to be completed in two-and-a-half years.
The 13 acre plot has a security outpost, weigh bridge, mounds of sand and gravel, steel rods, and new building blocks, which give the impression that a mega project is underway in the rural Yedthady.
