Bangalore: Prisoners Go on 'Dawn-to-dusk Fast' Demanding Release

Bangalore, Oct 2 (PTI): Over 1,000 convicts serving their terms in the Central Jail here staged a symbolic dawn-to-dusk fast demanding release on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi today, a top police official said.

"About 1,200 convicted prisoners, including women, undertook a symbolic dawn to dusk fast for their release on the basis of their good conduct on this auspicious occasion celebrated by the whole nation," DIG Prisons M C Vishwanathaiah told PTI.

Citing the example remission granted to prisoners in other states on the basis of their good conduct on such occasions, the prisoners appealed to the government to release them, he added.

State BJP govt first should take care of the medical staff who is in similar strike, for govt taking away their jobs. Let the deserved one get the jobs. These prisoners case can be heard later, as long as they are there inside for the crime they committed.
