M'lore: Well-known Educationist, Reformer Dr Ameer Hussain Passes Away

Mangalore, Oct 3: Dr Ameer Hussain, well-known educationist, homeopathic doctor and social worker, passed away at his residence here on Saturday October 2 following a brief illness. He was 86.

Dr Hussain's contributions to the field of education have been immense. He co-founded Crescent Welfare Association which runs an English medium primary and high schools and also a tailoring school. He had been its founder secretary and also played a vital role in initiating the Crescent Cooperative Society.

Moreover, he founded the Canara Institute of Education and served as its founder president.

Besides, he was also a forerunner of the cause of the revival of Urdu language in the district.

Founder secretary of Kankanady Rahmaniya Jumma Masjid, he was well-versed in various other fields like literature, socio-religious realms and business and even politics when he had represented the Bendur ward in MCC.

He is survived by four sons and two daughters.
